How to give your AI real-time social media data
Ask Claude or ChatGPT what people on TikTok are saying about a product, and you usually get a polite refusal or a summary of old articles. The model is not the problem. It simply has no way to read live social media. This guide explains why, and the three ways to fix it.
Why AI assistants can't read social media on their own
- The platforms block automated browsing. TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X show a login wall or a challenge page to most automated visitors, including the browsing tools built into AI assistants.
- Official APIs are limited or expensive. Reddit started charging for its API in 2023, X sells API access in paid tiers, and Instagram and TikTok only open their APIs to approved apps and mostly for your own account's data.
- Search results are not data. Even when an AI can search the web, it gets a few pages of text, not a list of 200 posts with likes, comments, dates and authors that it can count and compare.
Three ways to connect an AI to live social data
1. MCP server
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard for giving AI models tools. You add a remote MCP server once, and the AI can then call it whenever it needs data. Claude (web, desktop and Claude Code), ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex and many other clients support remote MCP servers.
For ProLevelMax the server address is:
https://prolevelmax.com/mcp
In Claude.ai go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector and paste the address. In Claude Code run:
claude mcp add --transport http prolevelmax https://prolevelmax.com/mcp
Setup for Cursor and Codex is in the docs.
2. Agent Skill
A Skill is a Markdown file that tells an AI how to use a service. It works in any AI that can read a web page and run requests, so it is the quickest way to start. Send your AI this line together with your API key:
set up https://prolevelmax.com/SKILL.md
The AI reads the file and sets itself up. The console generates the full setup text for you under Get started.
3. REST API
If you are building your own app or agent, call the API directly. ProLevelMax has three main calls: /v1/discover to find a data source, /v1/inspect to see its inputs and get a quote, and /v1/run to fetch the data.
curl https://prolevelmax.com/v1/discover \
-H "Authorization: Bearer sk_procli_..." \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"query":"tiktok comments"}'
What you can do once it's connected
- Market research: "Find the 50 most-liked TikTok videos about portable blenders this month and summarise the complaints in the comments."
- Competitor tracking: "Pull the last 30 Instagram posts from these three brands and compare their engagement."
- Community listening: "Collect Reddit threads from r/skincare that mention our product and group them by topic."
- Cross-border research: "Find popular Xiaohongshu (RedNote) notes about this category and translate the key points."
- Lead and review data: Google Maps places, Trustpilot and G2 reviews, LinkedIn company pages and job listings.
What to look for in a social data service for AI
- Coverage: the platforms you actually need. ProLevelMax covers 73 platforms, including Chinese platforms such as Xiaohongshu, Douyin, Weibo and Bilibili that most providers don't.
- Price before you run: an AI can easily fetch more than you meant to. ProLevelMax quotes the price before every run and never charges more than the quote.
- Pay per use: most people need data occasionally. A prepaid balance with no subscription avoids paying for unused credits each month.
- Structured output: JSON with fields like likes, comments, author and date, so the AI can sort, count and chart it.

FAQ
Can ChatGPT or Claude read TikTok and Instagram by themselves?
Not reliably. Their built-in browsing is blocked or rate-limited by most social platforms and cannot return structured lists of posts, comments or profiles. They need a data source connected through MCP, a Skill or an API.
What is the easiest way to connect an AI to social media data?
Use a service that offers an MCP server or an agent Skill. With ProLevelMax you paste one line, set up https://prolevelmax.com/SKILL.md, into your AI, or add https://prolevelmax.com/mcp as an MCP server.
How much does social media data for AI cost?
Pay-per-use services charge from a fraction of a cent per request. At ProLevelMax, for example, a page of Reddit comments costs $0.003 and about 100 TikTok videos cost under $1, with no monthly fee. Live prices are on the pricing page.
