How to monitor brand mentions on Reddit and TikTok with ChatGPT or Claude
Many marketers want a simple routine: every day or every week, see what people say about the brand on Reddit and TikTok, sorted into praise, complaints and questions. ChatGPT and Claude can write that summary, but they need the posts and comments first. There are two low-cost ways to give them that data: build a small do-it-yourself stack, or connect your AI to a data source and pay per use. This guide compares both, with real prices.
Why ChatGPT and Claude can't do this on their own
An AI assistant answers from its training data and, where available, from web search. Search results lean on pages a search engine has already indexed, so recent Reddit threads, full comment sections and TikTok comments are often missing or incomplete. Reddit and TikTok also limit automated access. To monitor mentions reliably, the AI needs a connection that fetches the posts and comments at the time you ask.
The do-it-yourself route
A common low-cost setup combines free or cheap tools:
- Reddit: F5Bot sends free email alerts when a keyword appears in a new Reddit post or comment.
- TikTok: a third-party scraping service collects videos and comments for a keyword or hashtag.
- Analysis: an automation tool such as Make.com or Gumloop passes the results to the OpenAI or Anthropic API, which writes the summary.
- Alternative for Reddit: a Python script reads Reddit's public .json URLs on a cron schedule and sends the text to an AI API.
This route works and can stay cheap at small volume, since most of these tools have free tiers and the AI API is billed by usage. F5Bot also gives you near-instant email alerts, which a data source does not.
What you take on:
- Three or four separate accounts and bills, or a script and somewhere to run it.
- Connecting each step: alert or scraper output, the automation scenario, the AI prompt and where the summary goes.
- Maintenance. When a site changes, a scraper is updated or an API limit changes, the flow can stop until someone fixes it.
- Each new platform, such as Instagram or Xiaohongshu, means another tool to add and connect.
If you are comfortable with this kind of setup, the DIY route is a reasonable choice.
The connect-a-data-source route
Instead of building the pipeline, you connect your AI to one data source and ask in plain words. The AI fetches the posts and comments, then writes the summary in the same conversation.
- Create an account at prolevelmax.com. New users receive $1 in sign-up credit after verifying their email (one per person). No card required.
- Connect your AI. Send it the line
set up https://prolevelmax.com/SKILL.mdtogether with your API key, or addhttps://prolevelmax.com/mcpas an MCP server. Step-by-step setup is in How to give your AI real-time social media data. - Ask in plain words. The AI picks the sources, tells you the price and runs them after you agree.

| DIY stack | AI with ProLevelMax | |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Sign up for several tools and connect them, or write and host a script | Create one account and paste one setup line into your AI |
| Tools to maintain | Alert service, scraper, automation tool, AI API key, or a script and a server | One account and one prepaid balance |
| Platforms | Reddit through F5Bot or .json; TikTok through a scraper; each extra platform needs another tool | 157 platforms, including Reddit, TikTok, X, Instagram, YouTube, Xiaohongshu, Douyin and Weibo |
| Alerts | Email alerts from F5Bot | No instant alerts; daily or weekly scheduled runs save results to run history |
| Cost | Free tiers plus usage of each tool and the AI API | Pay per use from a prepaid balance; about $1.50 a month in the example below |
| When something changes | You find and fix the broken step | You keep asking in the same way |
| Suits | People who are comfortable with setup and want full control | Marketers who don't code and want answers in a chat |
What it costs in practice
Example: check 3 keywords every day. For each keyword, run one Reddit search and one TikTok search, then read the comments of the 5 most relevant results on Reddit and on TikTok.
Swipe to see more columns →
| Item | Daily usage | Price | Per month (30 days) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reddit search | 3 calls | $0.003 per call | about $0.27 |
| TikTok search | 3 calls | $0.003 per call | about $0.27 |
| Reddit post comments | 5 calls | $0.003 per call | about $0.45 |
| TikTok video comments | 5 calls | $0.003 per call | about $0.45 |
| Total | 16 calls | about $1.44, so about $1.50 |
Arithmetic: 16 calls × $0.003 = $0.048 a day; $0.048 × 30 days = $1.44. Each call returns one page of results. Longer comment threads, more keywords or bulk runs add to this; bulk Reddit jobs are priced per result, from $0.0108 per result plus $0.06 per run. Live rates are on the pricing page. Your AI shows the price before every run, and you are never charged more than the quote.

FAQ
Can ChatGPT or Claude monitor Reddit and TikTok without any extra tool?
Not reliably. Their web search often misses recent threads and comment sections. Connecting a data source, or building a DIY stack, gives the AI the posts and comments to read.
Is the DIY route cheaper?
It can be, especially at small volume and if you already use these tools. The trade-off is the time to set up and maintain several tools. At the volume in the example above, a data source costs about $1.50 a month.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You paste one setup line into your AI and then ask in plain words. Developers can also call the REST API.
Can it cover platforms other than Reddit and TikTok?
Yes. The same connection covers 157 platforms, including X, Instagram, YouTube, Xiaohongshu, Douyin, Amazon and review sites, with one balance.
New users receive $1 in sign-up credit after verifying their email (one per person). No card required. Pay per use with no subscription. Top up by card (USD) or Alipay (CNY); Enterprise top-ups from $1,000 by bank transfer.
