Reddit API alternatives after the 2026 shutdown

By the ProLevelMax team · Updated 2026-10-20

On September 30, 2026 Reddit announced that RSS feeds stop working on November 13, 2026, that new requests for public API access end on October 31, and that all remaining public API access closes in March 2027. If your scripts, n8n flows or research tools read Reddit through RSS or the free API, they need a new source. This page sets out the dates, what the official API costs, and the alternatives.

Is the Reddit API free?

Not for commercial use. The free tier allowed about 100 queries per minute with OAuth for non-commercial use. Commercial use needs a contract with Reddit after a manual review, and Reddit does not publish a price list (commercial pricing was reported in 2023 at about $0.24 per 1,000 calls). After March 2027 the public route closes, and Reddit's stated path for builders is Devvit apps that run on Reddit's own infrastructure.

What to use instead of Reddit RSS

  • If you moderate the subreddit: Reddit suggests its Devvit app Discord Relay, which forwards community alerts to Discord or Slack.
  • For any other subreddit or keyword: run a scheduled search. With ProLevelMax your AI can search Reddit by keyword or read a subreddit's new posts on a daily or weekly schedule (procli_schedule_create, with a cost cap), and deliver results as CSV, Excel or JSON.
  • In n8n or Zapier: replace the RSS node with an HTTP Request node that calls the ProLevelMax REST API, then keep the rest of your flow.

The shortest request, for the newest posts in one subreddit:

curl -X POST https://prolevelmax.com/v1/run \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_PROLEVELMAX_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"scraper": "procli_reddit_c", "input": {"subreddit_name": "n8n", "sort": "NEW"}}'

The response has an items list with one row per post: id, title, text, author, createdAt, url, score and commentCount. In n8n, split the response on items and map those fields to the names your RSS flow used (title, link, pubDate, creator, content, guid). For a keyword instead of a subreddit, use the Reddit search source (procli_reddit_d).
